| Nestling
in the rugged cliffs of Tor Bay, Brixham boasts one of the most beautiful
harbours in Britain. The town is steeped in history and the daily catch
is still landed on the quayside as it has been for generations. Prince William of Orange landed here in 1688 on his way to claim the throne as King William III and his statue stands on the harbourside. The hymn Abide With Me was written in Brixham in 1847 by Henry Francis Lyte, the Vicar of All Saints Church. |

today revolves around the busy harbour where you can watch the fishermen,
the ferry and excursion boats and the artists. A visit to the Museum will
tell you the history of the town and don't miss a visit aboard the replica
of the Golden Hind which stands in the harbour. Take a walk or drive to Berry Head - it is a National Nature Reserve and Country Park and it is a 'must visit' if only for the stunning view. Brixham has both sandy and pebbly beaches as well as an outdoor sea water swimming pool. At Churston, there is Cayman Golf, a unique short course experience, and next door is a Go Kart circuit with both junior and senior karts. For walkers the coast path offers some spectacular scenery. Or you can take a boat excursion, a fishing trip or a ferry to Torquay, from the harbour. In the evening you will probably simply want to stroll around the harbour and enjoy a meal of delicious local seafood but if you want to venture further afield the larger resorts of Paignton and Torquay are close at hand. |
