Paignton, a very popular
family resort, has a traditional pier originally built for Victorian promenaders
and offers both activities and relaxation for all. |

| Paignton
is, of course, well known for its long stretches of 'paddler-friendly' beach,
not only on the sweeping main seafront but also at Preston, Broadsands and
Goodrington, where you will find Quaywest, Britains biggest waterpark. The
quaint harbour area, at the southern end of Paignton Sands is the place
to head for if you're looking for a boat trip or a sea fishing excursion.

Away from the beaches
and harbour there are many things to see and do and you shouldn't miss
a chance to visit Paignton Zoo (as seen on TV!). It opened as long ago
as 1923 and during the Second World War it accepted animals from Chessington
as 'evacuees'. Today it is one of the UKs most advanced zoos with state
of the art enclosures designed with the animals and the visitor in mind,
and plenty of 'hands on' fun. You can experience the romance of the steam
age on the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway which journeys alongside
Tor Bay taking in the spectacular scenery then along the wooded slopes
to the River Dart where a short ferry crossing will take you to the beautiful
old town of Dartmouth, home of the Britannia Royal Naval College. Or how
about a river cruise to the Elizabethan town of Totnes. |
